I’ve literally made your hummus recipe for the first time about 3 months ago and haven’t stopped making a fresh batch about every 10 days or so. I’ve also done the same recipe substituting black beans for the chickpeas along with roasted garlic and it’s amazing as well! My hubby and I LOVE this stuff! And also great as a spread on sandwiches instead of the same old boring condiments!
My 2 biggest tips for hummus, which I've been making for decades: 1) It's usually good to serve as-is, but a night in the fridge REALLY helps the flavor blend. You can always warm it up. 2) Try dipping white onion petals into it, using them as scoops. It really brings the tahini out.
YES! finally seeing the best recipe for hummus. after living in the middle east (and asking every falafel shop how they make it) this is definitely done well, but I have one recommendation: start with the lemon, garlic, salt and cumin in the food processor first. once this is very well blended you can put in some ice water (it becomes the texture of an amazing mayo dressing, then lastly, add the chickpeas. something special happens when you do it like this. you can even use a little of the aquafava (at the beginning). makes it even creamier. try it.
There's family affection there for sure! Also Rainbow Plant Life's folks seemed a little skeptical as to how good the humus would be - and were open about that. I loved their response, discovering that it was actually pretty good!

Thank you Nisha for your style of cooking and presenting it to us! I greatly appreciate all your words of wisdom, humour and delicious confidence. Your ease and pleasure of cooking inspires me to start trying new things for me and my son ☺️… thank you 😘
Yes, Nisha, this is the best hummus that we have ever had, let alone, made! Our chick peas were still warm from cooking in the insta pot, so I added ice to the blender instead of cold water and fluffed up perfectly. The garlicky, lemony olive oil at the end protected the hummus from drying out, brilliant again!
Hey Nisha, Friend of mine recommended me the instant pot when I was searching for an rice cooker. I knew your channel from before but not the instant pot videos. Then I was searching for vegan instant pot recipes on RUclips to convince myself to get an instant pot over a rice cooker and was positively surprised to see your channel pop up! Binged all the videos regarding that content. Then discovered you had an vegan instant pot cookbook which I instantly bought! Exactly what I was looking for! Oh you also kinda convinced me to see the utility and versatility and I finally add a food processor to my kitchen collection, admittedly a different model but I am very happy with it! Helps allot with vegan cooking total game changer IMO So I made the hummus recipe for the second time, first time I did it without lemon juice becouse I had none and thought “mhe won’t make to much of a difference” , I was wrong VERY wrong! Just made it again with the juice of 1 whole lemon HOLY such a positive difference! Now I wonder what I missed all these years by not adding lemon juice to my other dishes! Keep it coming, super good content! Best wishes
It’s true. She hits this one out of the park. This was a huge correction of my hummus making. The ice cold water is a great trick. Creamy and delicious. Merci
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! Made this yesterday. First time making hummus ever. Was lazy and soaked my dried chickpeas for two days and added a full lemon. It was fluffy and delicious. Nothing but compliments.
I make mine with canned chickpeas too, then blend with half a cup of water and half a cup of lemon juice (and bit of olive oil instead of sesame oil). From there, experiment with flavors

Hummus is a traditional dish in Southeastern Turkey as well, where the population is more multi-ethnic. Originally, the ingredients should be pounded. The ideal hummus is chunky not having a creamy texture. In Antakya, hummus used to be a favorite street food prepared in wooden muddlers. I am excited to see this recipe. Love :)
I made this yesterday. Even though I made hummus a lot of times previously this time I followed your instructions. And the result is incredible! A friend of mine who ate it kept thanking me :)))

I have been following you for a few years now and delight in your natural, wholeheartedness.

Here in Toronto Canada tomorrow is mother's day. My mum died a long time ago, too soon age 66. So glad to watch a happy family and best wishes to all. Sent flowers to my best friend, best mum I know.
I already reverse engineered ultrasmooth hummus some years back. I give instructions for both canned and dried peas below. Happy to share with a lovely lady. 😊 A) For canned chickpeas (15 oz can): > Rinse & drain chickpeas. No additional cooking should be needed because they were already autoclaved in the can. Brands do vary however. If you can squish a pea easily between 2 fingers, you're good to go. > Baking soda saute: heat a dry 10" nonstick pan (no oil) over med-hi heat. Add the drained peas and sprinkle 1.5 tsp baking soda evenly on top. shake n flip for exactly 3 mins, periodically misting with plain water anytime the pan turns white (baking soda). The heat and mild alkalai weaken the outer surface layer of the peas, making the skins far easier to remove below. > Skinning: After the 3 min alkalai saute, dump the peas into a 5 liter bowl of cold tap water. The skins will turn off-white and begin loosening in ernest. Under cool running water, gently rub the submerged peas back n forth between your palms ... just hard enough to cause the lobes of the pulses to separate into 2 halves and the loosened skins to slough off. periodically tilt the bowl away from the water stream - the flow of water thru and across the bowl will cause the skins to flow out the far sidecand into the sink ... kinda like decanting off silt while panning for gold. Contimue for about 5 changes of water, or until about 90% of the skins are gone. The amount of skins will astonish you ... about a pint worth. > Done: Drain the peas and make hummus ... no extra cooking should be needed but brands do vary. B) For dried chickpeas (figure 150 gr or 3/4 cup roughly equals 15oz canned): > Soak peas in cold water for 12 hrs in fridge in plenty of water (I use 2 liter cambro). Rinse & drain well. > Optional step: allow to sprout in a cool dark place for 24 hrs (rinse & drain every 8 hrs) until tails start to emerge. Or simply skip this step. > Do the alkalai saute step described above, same as for canned peas. > Do the skinning step described above as well ... because the peas are still uncooked you can press a little harder. > Cook: place skinned peas in sauce pan and cover with water by 1". Add 1 tsp salt, and simmer ... 30-40 mins for sprouted peas, and 45-50 mins for unsprouted peas. > Drain & rinse peas under cold water. Drain, and make your hummus. Of the two, canned is more convenient, but dried is definitely worth the extra effort, esp if you sprout them. Both ways work perfectly. 😊👍😂
You can buy split chickpeas, these are small no shell and they cook in half the time. I add carrot and onion to the cooking process, then I remove the onion and carrot before blending, that will add some sweetness to your hummus. try it, worst case you won't like it, but it could also be the best one you had... great video!
Perhaps You can; the only place I can buy dried chickpeas is Costco. Full size and I had to buy 10 pounds. (Purchased for a special vegetarian dinner last year. )
This is so natural...Talking to your parents, getting them taste the store bought and homemade version and their honest opinions ...it’s all so chilled out
Garlic doesn't go well with hummus actually, Americans often use too much garlic and lemon and it tastes very weird, I'm speaking as a Lebanese that loves garlic and lemon. Hummus shouldn't taste like garlic and lemon, just a hint. Hummus needs more of a creamy tahini taste rather than lemon and garlic, if it tastes like garlic or lemon its usually tastes off its more to give it a flavor rather than to "taste like garlic/lemon). Of course to each their own. Hummus is also not hummus without some good olive oil on top of it and some sumac or paprika on it, tastes so much better.
I instinctively felt removing the skins would make the texture smoother but never did it, and now it turned out the best and smoothest hummus I've ever made thanks to your instructions!

@@workin4alivin585 I grow herbs yr round on my window sill; only way to deal with rosemary for sure!!! Also if you have a dog or cat, herbs won't hurt them if they get curious; am careful about all other houseplants. I thought that was what she said. My mum's family are Asians (my father is British) so I am Eurasian and I can tell you Asian's are a race so very underrated and misunderstood.
Asians do it best when it comes to a lot of things. I am proud of my Asian bloodline.
@@CaptainValian You're right. No one should be offended. However it did sound like a passive-aggressive poke at the daughter. I've heard similar comments from my own mother that(if you read between the lines) means "why didn't you marry a nice Jewish girl", and in this case the comment was likely a similar passive aggressive statement "why didn't you marry a nice Indian boy".
Your mom is the cutest ever ❤️. I cannot wait to try this recipe. I’ve been making hummus for a while but this version looks 🔥
Haha yes she is! Hope you’ll love it!
I love how much your mother looks at you with such love and affection in this video. The love ❤more than the Hummus recipe- but it looks terrific!
Your mom wanting to take that sweet picture was adorable!!
Just made this today and it’s the first time I have been successful at making hummus at home. This is just as good or better than what we get at a local place we love. Thank you for this! Never buying store bought again!
Was it fairly easy to remove the skins?
@@heistruth2865 it is quite easy.. no worries.. give it a try..
I saw some Tahini!!!! And grabbed it. Making some tomorrow yessssss 😩
You're mom is the cutest. Love taste-tasting sessions at the end of your videos. Your meals are a real inspiration for me! Thank you!
This is my first video I’ve ever seen of yours, so maybe I won’t love the rest, who knows, BUT you gave cooking tips, you have the sweetest parents, you said “no” to celery and “yes” to carbs, and you pointed out what’s “American” (which I’m counting as educational.) So far I’m 💯% hooked!
Check out the brownie one, the parents are there too and the recipe is the best!
pro tip: use the cooking water in the blending and start from everything else before the chickpeas to get the smoothest texture
Palestinian hummus. Cuture. The best ever. They create this recipe and spread to othere countries
@@zohairfares3903 A delicious way to share culture!
I love that when you taste it you don't just say its amazing, you're honest, like,"hmm needs more salt, or lemon"
Who cares. The basic recipe if you add nothing is a cloud of beautiful texture that is totally bland. Seasoning defines personal taste and culture.
Hey Nisha,
Friend of mine recommended me the instant pot when I was searching for an rice cooker. Helps allot with vegan cooking total game changer IMO
So I made the hummus recipe for the second time, first time I did it without lemon juice becouse I had none and thought “mhe won’t make to much of a difference” , I was wrong VERY wrong! Just made it again with the juice of 1 whole lemon HOLY such a positive difference! Now I wonder what I missed all these years by not adding lemon juice to my other dishes!
Keep it coming, super good content!
Best wishes
You can tell mom just loves and adores her daughter so much.
You and your parents need a show!!! I laughed so hard. Love their honesty!! Thank you for sharing your beautiful family!
Haha thank you Malaika! So happy you enjoyed the video and my family!
It’s true. She hits this one out of the park. This was a huge correction of my hummus making. The ice cold water is a great trick. Creamy and delicious. Merci
You can tell her mom is totally in love with her daughters. How beautiful 🥺

Love the real family feeling of your videos! The food looks great and the everyday life appeal is perfect. Thank you!
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! Made this yesterday. First time making hummus ever. Was lazy and soaked my dried chickpeas for two days and added a full lemon. It was fluffy and delicious. Nothing but compliments.
Made this with the canned chickpeas and it was DELICIOUS! We are now 2+ years mostly plant based. Thank you for the encouragement.
Wonderful to hear that Terrence! So happy you enjoyed it :)
How many cans did you use?

I made this today finally after watching the video at least 10 times over the past year for its sheer entertainment value and it did not disappoint. Really lovely hummus. Thank you Nisha!
Do you soak the canned chickpeas ?
This is the BEST hummus I have ever tasted! I already knew it would be good because I’m ALWAYS On your channel and your recipes do not disappoint. But I didn’t think I wouldn’t be able to control myself and eat the whole thing in one sitting!! Thank you!
Haha thank you! So thrilled you loved this hummus so much and I totally get it, it's very easy to want to eat it all!

Also your sister is underappreciated "I thought those yellow things were bell peppers" LOLLLL

Love your mom and so all the enthusiasm you put into cooking!!!!! Definitely gonna try this recipe. Loads of love❤
I just made this and it’s fantastic! I’ve only eaten store bought hummus and this is way better!
One trick I did, was I took canned chickpeas and boiled them with baking soda for ten minutes. This softened them up even more and made a very fluffy soft texture in the end.
i also just use canned chickpeas and boil them, it's so much quicker!
So glad you tested this! I was wondering if boiling the canned ones would soften them more. Thanks for posting!
OMG i'm making this tomorrow and only have canned - didn't even think of boiling them! Thanks!
Your mom is a riot, Nisha! 🤣 I like your family as taste testers-very entertaining 😆 I’ll try it this way-the baking soda and ice water AND the toppings! Yum 😋 Thank you! ♥️🌱♥️
lol she certainly can be! i hope you will love this version!

I was going through my pantry yesterday and noticed I had a ton of chickpeas... so this recipe came at a perfect time! 😊

OMGoodness, I have been making Hummus for years and yours is hands-down, the BEST EVER! Thank you for making my day, my week and providing me with a recipe I am so happy to share with my family and my bigger family, as I live in a cohousing community with 24 other households where we share a meal 3 nights a week - YUM!
I have been following you for a few years now and delight in your natural,
wholeheartedness.
I've been wanting to make this hummus since the recipe dropped, and I finally made it! It's so good! My food processor is small, so I definitely had to split the recipe then combine it in a bowl! It's still so worth it. Nisha's recipes never disappoint!
Your mother is hilarious, she's an absolute legend!!
Here in Toronto Canada tomorrow is mother's day. My mum died a long time ago, too soon age 66. So glad to watch a happy family and best wishes to all. Sent flowers to my best friend, best mum I know.
I love the food you made and I made it and it was so good
I already reverse engineered ultrasmooth hummus some years back. I give instructions for both canned and dried peas below. Happy to share with a lovely lady. 😊
A) For canned chickpeas (15 oz can):
> Rinse & drain chickpeas.
B) For dried chickpeas (figure 150 gr or 3/4 cup roughly equals 15oz canned):
> Soak peas in cold water for 12 hrs in fridge in plenty of water (I use 2 liter cambro).
P.s Love the thumbnail pic . . . culinary foodgasm. 😊
Wow, not a single reply or vote. Disappointing.
(Purchased for a special vegetarian dinner last year. )

@@ovee5281 try make tasty food and put along with garlic and salt u may like it i used hate garlic too now i like cant live without garlic lol
me too i really love garlic

Small tip: the easiest way the chop up herbs manually is by putting them in a glass and using scissors. Chop away until you have the desired texture. You’re welcome!
😍
@@workin4alivin585 I grow herbs yr round on my window sill; only way to deal with rosemary for sure!!! Also if you have a dog or cat, herbs won't hurt them if they get curious; am careful about all other houseplants. If I'm working with a lot of parsley or dill, yes, rough chop and blender on pulse if freezing. Otherwise, absolutely!!!
I am not able to imagine that. Glass as in a glass board?
@@sriharshacv7760 I believe they are saying glass as in cup. The cup is rounded so its easy to "trap" the herbs into a confined area, good for chipping with scissors. I haven't tried this but it makes sense. Thank you Jennifer.
I can finely chop a half lb of cilantro, parsely, or rosemary in less than 5 minutes using two 8 inch chef knives (parallel). You can use your scissors and glass cup method. I'll stick to using my two knives. The more often you use a knife, the more proficient you become using it.
